The fact that medicinal plants (MPs) play a significant role in advancing sustained human health cannot be overstated. These plants exhibit medicinal properties in various parts of their structure. Their global utilization is increasing as they are utilized in diverse scenarios to support and prolong human well-being. MPs have played a pivotal role in sustainable human health management, fueling a growing interest in alternative medicines and the therapeutic use of plants. This is primarily attributed to their significantly lower cost in comparison to manufactured pharmaceutical alternatives. MPs are facing threats from human activities and unregulated wild harvesting. To ensure a steady supply of these plant species, intentional efforts to domesticate and cultivate them are strongly recommended. This chapter explores the correlation between MPs and human health and their utilization in various cultural contexts. The text discusses the progression of contemporary medicine from cures derived from plants, the difficulties in safeguarding traditional knowledge of medicinal plants, sustainable methods to ensure their long-term availability, ways for collecting them in an environmentally friendly manner, and the advantages of producing medicinal plants in controlled settings. The chapter also examines the involvement of MPs in providing health benefits and promoting preventative healthcare. The challenges to the availability of MPs and conservation efforts are tackled through prospects for research and technologies.
