摘要

The modern era is witnessing an evolution in technology that is reshaping how we approach problems. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as a global framework encouraging both developed and developing nations to shift toward renewable technologies to address the rising energy demands. Wind energy has a rich history dating back to ancient times. Over the centuries, the utilization and development of wind energy have evolved, leading to its application in various capacities by different countries worldwide. The integration of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has indeed sparked a revolution in the wind power industry. Trillions of data points given by wind turbines can be utilized in various aspects after proper analysis, including forecasting, operational management, condition monitoring, and facilitating modifications in wind energy turbine components’ operation. AI technologies also have the capability to forecast wind power generation even before actual energy production. This predictive ability enables operators to plan the incorporation of wind energy into the power grid well in advance. In this chapter, the authors will explore the use of various AI/Big Data techniques in harnessing the power of wind energy. Leveraging these technologies facilitates many ways, including optimization of system performance and anticipation of potential downtime in components, consequently enhancing plant productivity by curbing costs related to operation and component replacements. Application of AI for wind power forecasting helps to utilize wind energy in the best possible way and supports achieving SDGs. Efficient generation of wind energy will contribute to clean and healthy environment with a lot of infrastructure development and employment opportunities.
