Hoven’s Carp (Leptobarbus hoevenii Blkr) in Indonesia: Domestication and Cultivation
摘要
The Thailand-Malaysia Peninsula, Sumatra, and Kalimantan are home to many different types of fish. One native fish from this area is Hoven’s carp (Leptobarbus hoevenii), also known as the Sultan fish (Fig. 5.1). In Malaysia, Hoven’s carp is a valuable commodity for consumption with high selling price reaching thousands of ringgits due to its tasty meat and soft scales. However, Hoven’s carp is now overfished and extinct in the wild, further increasing its value and triggering fishermen to target it more aggressively.
