Studying Causes of Accretion of Ha Lan Estuary on the Coast of Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam
摘要
The Nam Dinh coast belongs to the Red River Delta in northern Vietnam, which has experienced severe coastal erosion and estuary accretion. Ha, Lan estuary of So River lies in between the Ba Lat and Ninh Co estuaries. While the coastal line near the Ha Lan estuary has been eroding, the Ha Lan estuary has been filled with sediment, affecting the waterway for fishing boats to go to the port inside the estuary. The Delft3D model was used in this study to simulate the hydrodynamics regime to make clear the interaction between hydrodynamic factors (flow from the So river with tide and wave) to understand the causes of the accretion. Assessing the causes can be used as a basis for proposing engineering solutions to stabilize estuaries against sedimentation, serving socio-economic development in Ha Lan estuary and Nam Dinh province in the future.
