Zhao Rushi, a writer from the Song Dynasty who once served as the supervisor (Tiju) of Quanzhou Port, recorded the cultural and natural resources as well as commodity resources of the Southeast Asian and South Asian countries in the East Asian region, the countries along the Silk Road trade routes on the sea during the Song Dynasty, and even as far as the Somali in East Africa, Morocco in North Africa, and the countries on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea in his monumental work Records of Foreign Countries (Zhu Fan Zhi).
