Community Engagement in Teacher Education: Potentials for Inclusive Education in Diverse Contexts

In an ever-evolving global landscape, fostering inclusive educational environments has become an imperative goal for teacher education programs. This paper discusses a qualitative study aimed at reflecting the manifold interconnections of community engagement in the context of teacher education. It explores the questions: What does community engagement entail, and what underlying principles guide its practice? And how does it impact inclusive education? Drawing on the expertise of international scholars and practitioners, this research offers an examination of community engagement, focusing on its essential principles and practices. The study underscores the importance of understanding how community engagement is situated within different cultural and socioeconomic contexts. The findings discuss the significance of community engagement as a catalyst for diversity, equity, and inclusion. By establishing meaningful connections between educators, students, and local communities, the research demonstrates how this practice can nurture inclusivity, and equity within the educational sphere.
