Damage to forests caused by insect pests, diseases, and wildlife leads not only to the loss of forest resources but also to a decline in the ecosystem functions of forests. At the UTHF, damage to forests caused by insect pests, diseases, and wildlife has been a problem that must be solved throughout its history. This chapter introduces the forest damage caused by these events that has occurred at the UTHF to date, as well as examples of research into the mechanisms behind their occurrence.
