Economic and Environmental Considerations in Pre-treatment: Costs and Benefits Assessment
摘要
Biomass waste has become an important resource for sustainable industrial uses, providing a method to lessen dependency on fossil fuels. It has enormous potential for producing biomaterials, biofuels, and biochemicals, which will aid in the shift to a circular bioeconomy. However, before biomass waste can be effectively used in various industrial processes, pre-treatment is required to enhance its suitability, performance, and conversion efficiency. This chapter explores the economic and environmental considerations of biomass pre-treatment processes, providing a comprehensive cost-benefit assessment. It examines the different pre-treatment technologies, their economic feasibility, and the environmental benefits they offer. By assessing both direct and indirect costs and benefits, this chapter aims to provide insights into the optimization of pre-treatment strategies to ensure long-term sustainability, economic viability, and efficiency in biomass utilization.
