Closing gaps in advanced achievement is an economic and moral imperative. High-potential students in America’s K–12 schools are under-identified and under-developed at alarming rates, especially students from groups that are historically underrepresented in advanced education programs and services. This chapter describes the main barriersEducational equitybarriers to impeding equitable advanced achievement. Drawing upon the Excellence Gap Intervention Model (EGIM), it then shares empirically-backed strategies that increase the accessibility, inclusivity, and effectiveness of advanced education opportunities for all student groups. The recommendations can ensure that students of all backgrounds receive the academic challenges and support required to develop their full potential.
