Being caught between their tribal roots and urban existence shapes the way in which the migrant Santals understand and position the significance of education in their lives as margins of the city. The chapter captures the educational visions, choice and aspirations of the migrant tribe of Santragachi and the critical role it plays in their lives. Acquiring an urban class status, even though the Santal migrants see hope in the crucial role that education can play to establish their position in the city, as a fringe community they feel equally hopeless about an education that has not being able to transcend the stigma of being a tribe despite becoming an urbanite in the four decades of their stay in the city. Santals continue to remain urban margins from the lens of the bhadralok that makes them vulnerable to discriminations and exclusions in the city. This is the paradox that lies at the heart of what education produces and reinforces.
