Traffic Demand Modeling of Freight Through Cochin Port Using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis
摘要
India boasts a total of 13 major ports, collectively responsible for managing 75% of the entire seaport freight volume. Cochin Port holds the higher position in national rankings for contributing to the total freight handled by significant seaports in India. The activity in the hinterland forms the basic foundation for the economic stability of a port. In this study, the major hinterlands associated with Cochin port are identified and multiple linear regression model is developed in order to identify the relation between the inbound and outbound demand with the economical variables, taken as independent variables. Population, NDDP and Port tariff (Port dues, Pilotage fee, Shifting charge, Tug charge) are taken as the major independent variables. The model shows that Port dues and Tug charges has less significance in the inbound and outbound demand and also the population, NDDP and other factors will influence the change in import and export commodities. The analysis suggested that Cochin’s inbound and outbound freight will be growing almost with the population and NDDP growth rate, the outbound freight, however, will experience slower growth than that of inbound.
