Reducing transportation costs is a crucial objective in the cement logistics network as cement is a low value high volume product. Also, the transportation of cement can substantially impact the environment. The multimodal transportation strategy is considered as one of the promising ways to reduce the overall transportation costs and environmental impact. The purpose of this study is to develop a mixed integer nonlinear programming model for the multimodal cement transportation system in the state of Kerala. The existing transportation system consists of a factory, one packing centre, warehouses, dealers, and different modes of transportation. The developed model is utilised to analyse the transportation and carbon emission cost for three scenarios such as (i) existing scenario, (ii) proposed scenario: I-direct transportation from packing centres to dealers, (iii) proposed scenario: II-addition of new packing centre to second scenario. It is found that proposed scenario II demonstrates the minimum overall cost.

摘要
