The texts selected and analyzed in this chapter are taken from Benn’s poetry collection Morgue and Other Poems (Morgue und andere Gedichte), which was published in March 1912 by Alfred Richard Meyer under the title 21. Lyrical leaflets (21. Lyrisches Flugblatt). The poems from this collection were later included in the expressionist anthology The Dawn of Humanity (Menschheitsdämmerung, 1919).
