The Interconnectedness of AI, SDG, Gestalt Psychology, and Taittiriya Upanishadic Concept of the Person
摘要
This paper examines the interdisciplinary intersections of artificial intelligence (AI), gestalt psychology, empathy, and the interconnectedness between the “pancha kosas” concerning India’s pursuit of sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030. AI holds great promise for addressing complex challenges and improving various aspects of behavioral sciences and the population it aims to serve in relation to various SDGs. The article also delves into AI’s implications on human cognition, emotion, and spiritual dimensions through a gestalt lens. The integration of AI and empathy holds tremendous potential for advancing SDG by improving healthcare access, quality, and patient experiences. Gestalt psychology offers insights into how AI algorithms process and interpret complex stimuli, framing perception as an organized whole. The gestalt perspective of the Taittirīya Upanishadic concept of the person with five kosas namely, annamaya (physical), pranamaya (psychophysical), manomaya (sensational, perceptual, and emotional), vignanamaya (cognitive), and anandamaya (beyond, spiritual) remains underexplored. A prudent use of AI may help assess the interconnectedness between the five “kosas” and five “mahabhootas” since the existing psychophysical measurements may not be able to do so accurately. Use of ChatGPT for instance may be considered useful by the psychology teacher educators, whereas certain others may perceive the same as a threat. Although AI exhibits potentials in tackling challenges within the behavioral sciences, it also raises substantial ethical concerns. Monitoring AI developments and ensuring responsible deployment of AI are crucial, especially in a country like India with multiple cultural entities.
