Plastids exist in various forms with distinct attributes, permitting them to operate in a wide range of specialized developmental processes in plants, tissues, and cells, as well as responding to different environmental cues. The diverse functions of plastids and their transitional states are based on their characteristics. Moreover, the current knowledge of their regulatory mechanisms is emphasized at both the level of gene expression and protein modification. With a specific emphasis on the processes involved in the development of green and nongreen traits and their interconversion, the gene-specific molecular network provides substantial support for enhancing various features associated with plastid interconversion.
