Transforming Wastewater into Resource: A Comprehensive Approach to Urban Wastewater Management
摘要
Amidst the growing urban sprawl, wastewater is both a forgotten enemy and an untapped ally. The growing demand for water and the increasing scarcity of freshwater resources make effective wastewater management critical for urban sustainability. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 seeks to ensure universal access to safe water and sanitation and promote the sustainable management of water resources. This research delves into the existing literature to analyse the current state of wastewater management practices, focusing on the challenges and opportunities associated with transforming wastewater into a valuable resource. It explores the scenarios, implementation challenges, and emerging trends in wastewater management in the world and in India, as well as the relevant policies, regulatory standards, and government initiatives that shape these practices. By examining global and Indian case studies, the study highlights the need for an integrated approach to wastewater management that supports the reuse and recycling of treated wastewater. The findings emphasise the importance of aligning urban planning strategies with sustainable development goals to enhance water security and promote environmental resilience. The study also aims to present insights for policymakers, urban planners, and stakeholders in developing innovative solutions for water reuse, contributing to a circular economy and sustainable urban futures in line with SDG 2030.
