The mechanism via which the body generates new tissue to substitute for destroyed tissue is referred to as wound healing. A multitude of growth factors and cell types participate in this complex process. This chapter initially delineates the several types of wounds according the nature of cut formed like—Abrasions, Lacerations, Bruises, Punctures, Burns, Avulsions, Firearm injury. It subsequently examines the mechanistic process of wound healing, highlighting the significant function of growth factors. Accordingly, the significance of growth factors i.e. PDGF, FGF, TGF-β, EGF and IGF in wound healing have been discussed. Lastly, this chapter deliberates about the state-of-the-art research techniques that are being devised to help with wound healing in process. Such systematic description of the process of wound healing will help in understanding the biology behind wound healing and help devise newer methodologies for wound healing in future.
