State-of-Charge Estimation of Lithium-Ion Battery Using Super-Twisting Observer

This chapter considers the problem of estimating the states of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. Super-Twisting Observer is designed to obtain the estimated states using the available input-output information of the system. Using the observer, the states of the system are estimated in finite time. The finite-time stability of the observer is proved by using the Lyapunov technique. The estimates of the states are obtained in the presence of a class of uncertainties, which shows the strong robustness property of the observer. The designed observer is illustrated by considering the problem of State-of-Charge estimation of lithium-ion battery using its simplified electrical equivalent circuit model. The model parameters are obtained using Recursive Least-Squares method. Simulation results highlight the accuracy of the technique.
