Analysis of an Octagonal AMC-Enhanced Patch Antenna for Low-Frequency Applications
摘要
The purpose of this work is to design and improve an octagonal-shaped artificial magnetic conductor (AMC)-enhanced patch antenna for low-frequency applications. The goal is to use AMC technology to increase miniaturization, bandwidth, and gain while keeping a compact antenna size. The AMC is implemented as ground plane on a Rogers RO3010 substrate. Antenna parameters like miniaturization, bandwidth, and gain are assessed and compared to a conventional square patch antenna. The results reveal that the choice of ground plane has a substantial impact on antenna performance, with AMC ground providing superior characteristics in key parameters, such as 26.3% reduction in operating frequency (from 610 MHz to 449 MHz), 2.7% improvement in bandwidth, and 9.32% gain enhancement (from 4.72dBi to 5.16dBi), while maintaining a better return loss for the same antenna size. The findings illustrate the potential of AMC structures to improve antenna performance for compact, low-frequency communication systems.
