Tranexamic Acid in Bleeding Trauma Patients: The CRASH-2 Trial
摘要
Can tranexamic acid save lives in bleeding trauma victims? The CRASH-2 trial investigated the use of tranexamic acid, an antifibrinolytic, in trauma patients with significant hemorrhage. A total of 20,211 patients were randomized to receive either tranexamic acid or a placebo within 8 hours of injury. The study found that tranexamic acid significantly reduced the risk of death due to bleeding, with no increase in vascular occlusive events. These results provided strong evidence for the use of tranexamic acid in trauma patients with severe bleeding, leading to its adoption as a life-saving treatment in trauma protocols globally. The trial also demonstrated that early administration is crucial for optimal outcomes.
