Harnessing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in English Language Teaching: Trends and Applications

This research study explores the transformative effect machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have on English language teaching (ELT). AI and ML technologies offer customised learning, automated feedback, and content adaptation, resulting in improved learner engagement and competence. The study includes a survey of ELT teachers and students, a brief analysis of AI-powered teaching platforms, and a review of ML algorithms in language assessment. The study’s findings highlight notable improvements in language acquisition and teaching efficiency among students when using AI and ML technologies. However, challenges such as AI bias, information privacy concerns, and educators’ readiness to embrace new technologies persist. This paper offers feedback on addressing AI bias and data security issues while proposing ethical frameworks and practical guidelines for integrating AI into ELT. Additionally, it includes real-world case studies, discusses AI’s role in pronunciation training and creative writing, and offers visual representations to improve comprehension. The study concludes that AI and ML technologies significantly improve student engagement, retention, and language proficiency.
