In the recent decade, machine learning and deep learning have attracted attention from decision- and policy-makers in enterprises and governments, market analysts, and data scientists. This research paper provides the general use of machine learning algorithms in the municipal solid waste management system. Increasing awareness about waste management relating to its implication on the environment and economy has resulted in a keen observance of how the application of machine learning is a promising method toward enhancing efficient and accurate waste classification and management. The paper herein synthesizes findings from different studies contrasting various techniques of machine learning with their effectiveness in waste management systems. At the end, major challenges of machine learning algorithm used in municipal solid waste management system are discussed.
