Application of Ancient Traditional Shipbuilding Methods to Current Logistics Management

This study explores the extensive legacy of ancient Indian shipbuilding expertise and evaluates its relevance in contemporary logistics and supply chain management. The study examines the chronological progression of marine customs in India, starting from the Vedic era and continuing through the Gupta Empire and the medieval period. The research progresses through analysis of a systematic review of the literature. The study highlights significant advancements in shipbuilding methods, selection of materials, and regulations about maritime affairs. The study emphasises the utilisation of conventional techniques, such as fabricating stitched containers and enhancing ship hull configurations. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of using natural resources, like teak, in an environmentally conscious manner. These old formulas exhibited both resilience and flexibility, making them highly efficient in the maritime sector. The study highlights the substantial impact of ancient Indian shipbuilding on maritime trade throughout its duration and provides essential insights for contemporary global supply networks. The findings emphasise the importance of utilising these conventional approaches to tackle current issues related to sustainability, resilience, and efficiency. The paper provides recommendations for future research, emphasising the necessity of employing historical methodologies in contemporary circumstances.
