India’s logistic sector is one of the largest globally, growing at a CAGR of 10.5% and giving livelihood to around 23 million people. Logistics and supply chain management are of prime importance in the fertilizer segment growth as the country needs to ensure that fertilizer is available during the main cropping season mainly Kharif and Rabi. Fertilizer use has seen a tremendous increase in India and will play an essential role in meeting the future food requirements of the growing population. To achieve this fertilizer industry has to handle millions of tons of finished products and raw materials. Freight cost and time management contribute to the cost of sales and its effectiveness increases marketing competitiveness. The paper focuses on identifying and understanding the factors affecting the supply chain and logistics management of fertilizers in India and the effect on marketing competitiveness. The marketing strategies considering SCM effectiveness can help in market penetration.
