摘要

The intention of this paper is to resolve the endless issue related to drilling fluids which concerns towards the modification of the fluids properties within limited time interval and cost. Therefore, this paper presents the effect of hydrophobic silicon dioxide (SiO2) nanoparticles on the harmonious shear thinning behavior of magnetorheological grease (MRG). Different concentration in the range of 1, 3 and 5% of silicon dioxide nanoparticles is prepared in MRG solution. The chemical bond and rheology property are characterized and analysed in controlled room temperature and off-state conditions. The results showed substantial changes in MRG’s component interactions as well as reduction in off-state viscosity. This reformation is interrelated with the fracture and yield stress point of the partially hydrophilic lithium grease. This deviation ascertains that the selection of MRG additives are critical throughout the process of material development by taking into consideration of the purposes and applications in wide spectrum.
