Based on field surveys and personal interviews, this paper places a family's development over the past 40 years in the analytical perspective of village, local society, and national development changes, presenting the process of mutual embedding of individual, family, and village poverty eradication dynamics and national poverty alleviation practices at different development stages. On the one hand, national poverty management actions form the basic support for households’ poverty alleviation actions through targeted measures on household and whole village poverty alleviation; on the other hand, households show a high degree of self-adaptation to various drivers of change in the process of national and social development. As this herdsmen family developed from a “point” pattern to a “network” pattern, the life narratives of three generations of this family concentrate on the historical process of national, social, and village development to a large extent.
