Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is the most common form of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus and can occur as an isolated entity or in association with systemic lupus erythematosus. The pathogenesis is multifactorial with a complex interplay between genetic predisposition and environmental triggers. Clinically, the lesions are erythematous, indurated plaques, having follicular plugging along with scarring and pigmentary changes. Photo-exposed areas are predominantly affected. It causes significant morbidity due to the scarring and pigmentary changes. Diagnosis relies mainly on clinical features, and early intervention is necessary to minimize long-term damage and improve quality of life.
