Raynaud’s phenomenon is a relatively common vasospastic phenomenon in response to exposure to cold environment, emotional stress, or other physical or medication exposures. It is seen more commonly in women, during the second and third decades of life. It is a clinical diagnosis, characterized by classical triphasic color changes of the digits. It is important to differentiate primary Raynaud’s disease from secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon, as the latter is associated with complications such as digital ischemia and ulceration. All patients presenting with Raynaud’s phenomenon should undergo complete evaluation including a nailfold capillaroscopy.
