In this chapter, I will first make an overall literature review of the researches on hermeneutics at home and abroad so as to clarify the different types of hermeneutics and their respective gists. Second, I will make an overall literature review of relevant studies in TS, point out the problems therein, and discuss the extent to which the sphere’s recourse to hermeneutics should reach. Third, I will unfold a comparative study, at the level of meaning, on the relationship between general hermeneutics and phenomenological theory of meaning, and point out the former’s shortage and the inspirations that the latter can offer to it. Fourth, I will further unfold, in the context of translation studies, the analysis of “yes/no” of the hermeneutical schools on the view of translation, and determine the significance of general hermeneutics to translation studies: methodological concern. Fifth, I will try to develop an SDH hermeneutic model of translation studies from the perspective of phenomenological theory of meaning, aiming to settle the bottleneck problems with which general hermeneutics is faced. Last but not the least, I will elucidate the ferrying function of general hermeneutical view of translation between the studies of translation theory and phenomenological theory of meaning.
