Rabari: Identity Through Embroidery
摘要
I was definitely a nomad in another lifetime. However, when I compare it to this life that I have lived for 40-odd years, I sense a kinship to the nomadic tribes of the region where I was born in India. I have done (in my strictly urban life) my versions of small-range, long-range, and circular migrations, throughout my adult life. I was born in a small town in a region in the north-western desert of India called Kutch. The proximity to the desert makes it, even today, an arid, harsh, and remote, yet very beautiful part of the country. The local populace of the state consists of many communities, tribes, and religions. One such nomadic tribe among them is the indigenous community of Rabaris.
