The strategies for achieving textile sustainability involve the design of new materials or modifying existing ones to meet the specific requirements for various applications. The design of materials for sustainable textiles combines advancements in both digital technologies and material sciences with environmental responsibility. This chapter deals with some key strategies that could be adopted to achieve textile sustainability. These strategies include but not limited to adoption of sustainable fibers and materials, electronic textiles (e-textiles) with eco-friendly components, energy harvesting and storage technologies in textiles, 3D printing and additive manufacturing, circular economy for textiles, smart textiles for reducing environmental impact, biomimicry and nature-inspired design, end-of-life and recycling considerations and blockchain for supply chain transparency. Achieving textile sustainability in the design and production of materials for digital technologies requires a multi-faceted approach that addresses the environmental, social, technological and economic aspects of sustainability.
