Energy Efficiency in Textile Production: Strategies and Solutions
摘要
The textile industry is a major contributor to the carbon footprint and consumption of high energy during manufacturing processes, thus leading to rising energy costs. This limits efforts to meet the global climatic goals and minimise any environmental impacts, hence efforts to adopt sustainable practices. Energy efficiency, however, poses a critical solution and strategy to ensure economic gains, limit environmental impacts and enhance effective energy usage in the textile industry. This is because, at the production stages of the textile industry, high energy consumption is experienced. In this chapter, we discuss the strategies and solutions for energy efficiency in textile production in three (3) key areas: strategies for energy efficiency, technological innovations and benefits of technological innovations for energy efficiency in textile production processes. The barriers to energy efficiency of textile production are further discussed. Even though there are numerous benefits of practising energy efficiency, there are some challenges and Regulatory Issues that hinder the full realisation of this approach to lower carbon emissions, limit environmental impacts and high energy consumption. The chapter lastly concludes by providing promising areas for future research opportunities for sustainable energy efficiency in the textile industry.
