Bahrain’s Mental Health Sector: Pillars of Excellence and Strategic Directions
摘要
Mental disorders and psychosocial disabilities represent a globally acknowledged healthcare challenge, demanding a well-modeled and functioning mental health system. In Bahrain, strategically mobilizing national efforts toward fostering population mental health is one of the utmost priorities. Hence, to reinforce these vital efforts, this chapter will first provide a review of Bahrain’s mental health sector, its progression, factors that potentially influence its success, highlight areas of attention to support advancements in national mental health strategic work, and propose strategies to overcome the sector’s challenges that Bahrain and other regional countries encounter. Five excellence pillars were focused on and inspired by international evidence, specifically: (1) developing a mental health surveillance system, (2) mental health workforce planning, (3) architecting mental health facilities, (4) national mental health strategic planning, and (5) comprehensive mental health legislation and governance. These pillars are crucial for supporting health policy development and determining areas for action.
