This chapter comprehensively introduces mental health services in the Middle East, examining the region’s geographical features, demographic patterns, and cultural aspects. It explores the prevalence of psychiatric disorders, highlighting how geopolitical issues, economic inequalities, and recent global events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which have impacted mental health outcomes. Special emphasis is placed on the evolving trends in mental health conditions, particularly the rising rates of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders. The availability of mental healthcare is discussed as a vital yet frequently underfunded aspect of public health in the Middle East. Key barriers to care are identified, including persistent social stigma, the unequal distribution of healthcare resources, and instability resulting from conflicts.
