Cold stress is a significant abiotic factor that negatively impacts plant growth and productivity by disrupting physiological and biochemical processes. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a key signaling molecule, is implicated in various stress responses, including cold stress. GABA modulates stress-responsive mechanisms that stabilize cellular structures, maintain metabolic balance, and enforce antioxidant defense systems. Cold stress accelerates GABA accumulation, which regulates expression of key stress-responsive genes and confers cold resilience in crops. Further, GABA also interacts with several metabolic pathways responsible for improved cold tolerance. The chapter highlights the multifaceted roles of GABA and its potential in developing cold-tolerant crop varieties.

摘要
