This paper studies a long-lived and widely used database of patterns used to determine le types. It provides a detailed yet accessible description of the pattern language and related features. It presents some representative results from a detailed exploration of this database, highlighting features that invite further study of both their theoretical and their implementation aspects. It briefly describes the implementation of a system used for this study and that is suitable for studying other similar databases.
