Development of Determined Path Driving Simulator and Usability Testing on Vehicle Handling
摘要
The rising number of traffic accidents emphasizes the necessity for a serious game-based driving training platform including driving simulators. Driving simulators function as a protected environment where people can learn driving competencies and regulation systems without running dangerous real-life driving scenarios. The research develops a driving simulator through the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) with Unity Game Engine to evaluate its usability and effectiveness. User feedback and simulator performance evaluation takes place through a structured questionnaire during the beta testing phase. The research establishes a comparative framework for studying usability tests done on two different driving simulators. The usability metrics from “Determined Path” showed superior results during analysis of the first driving simulator. The observed variations between the groups lack statistical significance suggesting additional developments need to be made. The research adds to existing knowledge about Serious Games applications for developing secure and successful driver education programs.
