This work evaluates the effect of “VitRush,” a serious game to increase awareness about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. “VitRush” combines game mechanics that are engaging with educational content, using the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) method. Thirty gamers were involved in the study who completed pre-test and post-test questionnaires to evaluate their nutritional knowledge before and after playing the game. The collected data showed that players had learned a lot and exhibited behavioral changes in terms of dietary habits, which was statistically significant. This finding indicates that serious games effectively aid people in developing health conscious behaviors interactively and informatively. “VitRush” is able to get more engaged and even better retention with the use of gamification principles that help make nutritional education more accessible and fun. The findings indicate that behaviors toward unhealthy eating habits and the public awareness of proper nutrition can be addressed with the use of digital interventions, such as serious games. The study also helps to support broader application of game-based learning in health education, and to understand the potential benefits of games based learning in encouraging healthier lifestyles. Another potential area of research is growing the game’s reach and how long-term behavioral choices for dietary change are measured.
