Virtue: Power and Values
摘要
In this chapter, I will examine the concept of virtue in Emerson and Chinese philosophy by using the concept of value and power. The foundational value for virtue is goodness, which is closely related to beauty, and truth. However, they have completely different interpretation of goodness. In terms of power, I will explore three types of powers in Emerson and Chinese philosophy, which include cognitive power, bodily power and power of action.
