Self-transcendence: Ecological Aesthetic Self and Environmental Virtue

In this chapter, I will center on the fusion of self based on intercultural dialogue between Emerson and Chinese philosophy from the perspective of nature, spirituality and place. The fusion of self is intimately related to a new virtue, which is called environmental virtue. I will discuss the concept of environmental virtue from three core elements: ecological aesthetic self,value in nature, and aesthetic power. The new environmental virtue will cultivate a new sense of place. In China, wilderness has the potential to become a new place for Chinese people.
