Spiritual Practices for Self-Transcendence

  • Shan Gao

摘要

This chapter will focus on spiritual practices for attainment of virtue through self-transcendence. Emerson stresses solitude, reading, walking, communication and so on. These practices tend to unit humanity with the highest entity, God. By contrast, Confucianism stresses rites, while Zhuangzi stresses inner effort within the mind such as forgetting and so on. For Chinese philosophy, these practices will help humanity achieve self-transcendence towards Dao.
