This chapter classifies how whataboutisms and tu quoque function as character-centered rhetoric in the UN Security Council, and it presents the elements of a grounded theory used to analyse this rhetoric. It introduces “factworlds” and organises coded phenomena into three groups: Factworld, Rhetorical Attack, and Rhetorical Defence. The analysis shows how circular accusation–counteraccusation sequences emerge and sets up a model linking these categories to deliberative dynamics in the Council.
