Shahmirzādi
摘要
Shahmirzādi is an endangered and understudied Iranian language. The little that has been studied concerns Shahmirzādi’s morphology and syntax, with almost nothing about its phonology. The aim of this chapter, therefore, is to describe its segmental inventory, allophonic variation, phonotactics, and suprasegmentals, along with providing observations about syllable structure, segment sequence constraints, and stress and intonation patterns. Furthermore, certain details about Shahmirzādi’s phonemic inventory and certain stress and intonational patterns will be compared with those of Modern Persian, the official language of Iran and the second language of Shahmirzādi speakers. Data was gathered firsthand through fieldwork involving interviews with three native speakers of this language. Overall, this chapter is an effort to record certain phonological aspects of an endangered language and contributes to its preservation.
