How to Measure Rhythm: A Case Study of the Rhythmic Structures of Persian
摘要
The topic of this paper is Persian rhythm and the methods used to study and measure its patterns. First, the definitions of rhythm and its research approaches are discussed in terms of the correlations between Iranian music, poetry, and Persian language. Then, Persian rhythm is analyzed using typological approaches based on the classification of rhythms as syllable-timed rhythms, and finally, a new approach to the study of Persian rhythm is presented by introducing time series analysis methods. In this study, mainly evaluation methods are presented, and the selected data consist of a relatively small corpus of spoken Persian read by eight speakers. Finally, the research prospects offered by the techniques presented in this paper are presented, and a foundation is laid for a new direction in the study of rhythm variability in Persian.
