Embodied Language in Persian
摘要
In recent years, theories of embodiment and embodied language processing have been the subject of a large volume of interdisciplinary research. Embodied language processing refers to the reactivation of previously experienced sensorimotor processes when people talk about objects and concepts. In this chapter, we briefly review some works that have been done on embodiment, embodied language processing, and embodied metaphorical processing. This will be followed by an overview of studies conducted on metaphorical embodiment of some specific concepts in Persian, including TIME, EXACTLY, HOPE, LIFE, DEATH, INTENSIFIERS, and MANNER VERBS. Some of these studies have specifically focused on the gestural embodiment of these words and categories of words. These works can be the starting point for large-scale projects on how concepts are metaphorically embodied and realized in co-speech gestures in Persian and other languages.
