A Discourse Analytical View Toward Iranophobia and Preemptive Policies in the Discourse of the Iranian Supreme Leader
摘要
The stance of Iranian political authorities in response to an increasing Iranophobia discourse has been underexplored in the existing literature. This study used an analytical discourse approach to examine the speeches of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei (heretoforth, Ayatollah Khamenei), focusing on the origins and the underlying casues of the dissemination of Iranophobia discourse. The study also investigated the portrayal of various threats aimed at weakening the fundamental structures of the Islamic Republic. Additionally, it explores the preemptive measures proposed by Ayatollah Khamenei to counteract these threats. Employing Foucauldian discourse analysis, this study analyzed 50 speeches by the Iranian Supreme Leader spanning from 2006 to 2024. The findings suggest that Ayatollah Khamenei highlights the ideological threats aimed at weakening the Islamic Republic’s fundamental structures. To mitigate these threats, he advocates for macro-scale preemptive measures that rely on technological advancements and reinforce the religious and ideological principles of the Islamic Revolution.
