Epigenetics offers crucial and essential biological information that could be directly used for crop enhancement through promoting modern agricultural breeding strategies. Herein, we highlighted the potential epigenetic mechanisms underlying major agronomic traits in crop improvement. Moreover, we reviewed various synthetic biology (SynBio) approaches that may improve several desirable agronomic traits to meet the demand for staple food of an ever-growing worldwide population. We studied recent technologies in plant SynBio, which regulate gene expression at multiple levels, and focused on their future directions. Hence, this chapter provides useful new prospects aimed at harnessing the potential of epigenetics and SynBio in crop improvement for the sake of the worldwide food security.
