Dynamic signs have content that changes according to the situation or have a position or shape that changes to enhance visibility. The present study used a dual task method to clarify the characteristics of noticing dynamic signs while walking. Participants were asked to respond to a distractor task presented on the floor when viewing a scene in which they moved through an underground passageway in an immersive virtual reality device, while simultaneously reading dynamic signs presented on the floor, to the front, or on the ceiling. The performance of the participants was evaluated based on the correct response rate for the reading of the dynamic signs. When participants were divided into age groups, an effect of age on the attractiveness of dynamic signs was found. The results also revealed differences in the attractiveness of dynamic signs due to the presentation position, suggesting a more reasonable result than in prior studies.
