In the digital era, online learning is pivotal in education, yet questions remain about its essence and impact. This study investigates the impact of timers and alerts in online learning management systems (LMS) on satisfaction and perceived usefulness, considering the moderating role of user traits. Data from 152 tertiary students experienced with LMS were analyzed using structural equation modeling, revealing that timers significantly influenced satisfaction and perceived usefulness, while warning alerts only affected perceived usefulness. Personality traits, particularly openness to use, moderated these effects, highlighting individual differences in user experience. Qualitative insights emphasized the preference for countdown timers and the adverse effects of early warning alerts on user anxiety. Overall, findings underscore the importance of considering user traits in optimizing LMS design for a student-centric approach, enhancing the effectiveness and acceptance of online learning platforms within the evolving landscape of education.
