Fire is a major risk, the human, material, and environmental costs of which can have catastrophic consequences for the health and integrity of many living beings. The management of fire-related incidents on ships is a major preoccupation, forcing human beings, and sailors in particular, to develop new techniques and technologies to mitigate these incidents. These new techniques and technologies take the form of firefighting organizations and prevention tools. Based on intervention research, our paper provides an analysis of the notion of internal and reciprocal relevancy to training. Introducing this notion enables us to move away from a techno-centric approach to rethink learning situations and training content, by focusing on the activity of learners and trainers in simulated situations, i.e. in training situations. On the analysis of mediation, the results show the interactions played a major role in learning situations. These results lead us to discuss the relevance of introducing a technology into maritime fire-fighting training and invite to consider other vectors of transformation as the dimension of the collective health and safety in training courses.
